Of the 64,641 reported abortions performed on Canadian women in 2010, detailed reports on the number and percentage of repeat or first-time abortions exist for only 27,576. The number of previous abortions is not known for the remaining 37, 065 abortions. All of the abortions with detailed records on repeat or first-time abortions were performed in hospitals;clinic data on previous abortions is not available, and the figures do not include any abortions from Quebec. The Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), who collects and disseminates abortion data in Canada, has not reported the clinic data on previous abortions, or any information on repeat abortions in Quebec, for any of its releases since it began disseminating abortion information for the year 2007. Statistic Canada had previously been responsible for disseminating statistics on abortion in Canada.
Of the reported abortions of which we have figures from 2010, 46.8% of these abortions were performed on Canadian women who have not had a previous abortion. 17.4% of women had previously had one abortion, and 10.6% had previously had two or more abortions. It is not known for the remaining 25.3%.
